Virginia “Virgie” Diamzon Fernandez November 26, 1933 – July 9, 2022 Virginia “Virgie”Fernandez passed away at the age of 89 on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo following an illness. She was born in San Juan, Pampanga, Philippines the tenth child of 12 siblings. She traveled to Manila where she studied nursing and became a midwife. She first traveled to England in 1965 to work as a nursing assistant and midwife then immigrated to Canada with her best friend in 1967. She came to the United States to visit her cousin Bob Diamzon and his family in 1981 to escape the cold winters in Canada. She stayed with them for a few months and was introduced to the love of her life Rodrigo “Rudy” Fernandez. She married Rudy on July 25, 1981 in Ottawa, Canada then moved to Vallejo, CA where Rudy and his son Rene lived. In addition to being a home maker/step mother, she continued to work as a nursing assistant until she retired. She was an active member of St. Vincent’s parish serving as a Eucharistic minister and participating in weekly prayer groups sometimes hosting them at her home. She enjoyed singing karaoke, watching TFC variety shows and playing mahjong. She was an excellent cook and was known for her famous carrot cake and biko. She enjoyed gardening vegetables with her husband Rudy. Her favorite animal was an elephant, she had a few elephant plant stands in her home in Vallejo. Her Favorite pastime was her loved to crochet and she made us matching panchos and pants outfits and baby blankets for our newborns. She is survived by her stepson Rene Fernandez and leaves a legacy of two grandsons, Jordan (28) and Julius (25) Fernandez, her sister Andrea Sta Rosa and her children in the Philippines, her brother Ben Diamzon and his wife Dely and their children Mark Diamzon and Kristine Savicky her husband Cory Savicky and their son Theo, Adrian & his wife Cristina with their two children Vanessa & Adam and Marites Diamzon her husband An Huynh and their daughter Erika, her nieces Soledad “Chollie” Mathias and her husband Allen of Vacaville, Tess Samala Smith and husband Cornell of Fairfield, her cousin Bob Diamzon’s wife Ochie, her niece Donna Diamzon and her husband Sam Hammoude of Oakland, and their daughters Jacqueline 25, Francesca 22 & Nicole 21; her niece Felice Nina Diamzon and her children Ashley 35, Alexander 33, Gianluca 20, Michaela 28 and her children great nephew Zayel 8 and great niece Cielo 6, nephew Dalton Diamzon and his wife Angelina Ramos Diamzon of San Bruno and their children Alyssa 16 and Jeremy 14. She’s also survived by niece Erlinda & her husband Virgilio Gajasan and their children Michael & Elizabeth “Liz” of Ottawa, Canada. Visitation at 3-7 pm, July 16-17th, 6 pm rosary/novena on Sunday, July 17th at Skyview Memorial Chapel. Burial Mass 12 pm Monday, July 18th at St. Catherine’s of Siena Church followed by Burial at All Souls Cemetery
