Bertrand Perry III

March 20, 1965 - May 23, 2022

2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” Deacon Bertrand Perry III was called home to eternal life on May 23, 2022. He was welcomed by his beloved mother, Brenda Sharon Speaks-Hodge; and two brothers, David Perry and Andre Allen. Born on March 20, 1965 in Vallejo, CA to the union of Bertrand Perry Jr. and Brenda Speaks, Bertrand was the proud first-born child and loving big brother. Affectionately known as “Bert”, he attended Vallejo schools. His many professions included being a welder at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, working with his family through St. Simon Maintenance and most importantly being a dedicated Deacon to his church- St. Simon Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of his uncle, the late Pastor Simon C. Nelson. At an early age, he found Christ and remained a humble servant until he was called home. Bert loved the Lord and the Lord loved him. Everyone knew that he was highly-favored by God, showing us all the many challenges that he overcame through the course of his life. Some say he had 99 lives! He truly was a living testament of how much he was favored. Bert especially will be remembered for his jokes and infamous nicknames for everyone that he loved dearly. He had this innate ability to bring smiles and infectious laughter to all those around him. He truly was the life of the party. Most recently, he was honored to attend his uncle’s 75th birthday celebration in which everyone was ecstatic when he arrived, bringing that personality and humor that we all loved so much. To celebrate his life, Bertrand leaves to cherish his precious memories- his father, Bertrand Perry Jr. of Vallejo, CA; his grandmother, Emma Dale Perry, 98, of Vallejo, CA; brothers: Bertrand Perry IV of American Canyon, CA, Cecil Grayson and Emmanuel Hodge of Vallejo, CA; sisters: Gretha Wilkerson and Brenda Bernstine of Vallejo, CA, Edna Tanya (Byron) Hodge-Whitlock of Santa Rosa, CA, and stepsister Veronica Morrison of Fairfield, CA; one uncle- Cherubim (Mary) Speaks of Vallejo, CA ,and five aunts- Ruthetta Perry of Vallejo, CA, Eugenia Turk of Antioch, CA, Kari (Reggie) Jones of Gilroy, CA, Patricia Speaks of Oakland, CA, and Alice Williams-Nelson of Vallejo, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many friends. He also leaves his long-time companion of over 10 years, Wanda Mitchell. Everyone loved Bert so much, and we were all so blessed to have him in this life for 57 glorious years. We will miss him dearly, and now he will forever rest in heavenly peace.
