Jaime (Jimmy) Ballesteros Abenojar Sr. transitioned peacefully in the late night of January 15th, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Ma. Aurora (Bing) V. Abenojar; his children, Jimmark (Noriko), Jaime Jr. (Jessica), and Tiffany (Ryan); and grandchildren, Jake & Emma (Jimmark), Oliver & Lia (Jaime Jr.), and Razelle & Luke (Tiffany). Jaime was born in Urdaneta, Pangasinan, Philippines on March 23rd, 1952 to Prudencia (Ballesteros) and Manuel Abenojar, 2nd born of 8 children. October 15th,1973, he married Bing Cortes Ventura followed by the birth of their 1st child, Jimmark, in April 1974. In January 1978, they had their 2nd child, Jaime Jr. They had their last child, Tiffany, in September 1982. On October 31, 1998, they celebrated their 25th anniversary with their renewal of vows at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, surrounded by their family and friends. At the age of 18, Jimmy enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1981. He held contract jobs until he joined Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in 1985, which he retired from in July 2012. In his retirement, Jimmy continued globetrotting with Bing, traveling to several places including Africa, South America, and various parts of Europe and Asia, as well as several cruises from the South Pacific to Alaska to the Mediterranean and Caribbean Sea. Taking road trips around the US, staying at various B&Bs and visiting different landmarks, Jimmy enjoyed the open road and all it had to offer, visiting over 30 states. Jimmy found happiness using his hands, creating, building and gardening his beautiful yard, his weekly Maharlika Bowling League and annual bowling tournaments from Reno to Las Vegas, monthly Birthday Club luncheons, and dinner/dance events. Jimmy went by many names – Jaime, Jimmy, Jim, Manong, and Dad. His favorite name of all was Grandpa. During the school week, he brought Jake and Emma to their respective activities after school. On the weekends, you could find him at an ice rink cheering on Jake in hockey or a community theatre enjoying Emma’s ballet performance. When Oliver and Lia were in town from Seattle, Jimmy enjoyed playing with them in the backyard, picking fresh fruit and vegetables for dinner and dessert, and playing with the dogs. When Razelle came home during school breaks, he spent time with her in the garden, picking fresh fruits to enjoy after dinner. When Luke was born, Jimmy stopped by daily to hold Luke through one of his naps, feed him, and be amazed as he watched him discover the world around him. Jimmy lived his life to the fullest fulfilling his 3 biggest dreams – supporting his children to complete their education and success in their respective careers, travelling the world with Bing, and retiring early to enjoy the things he loved. Jimmy’s life was a gift to those who knew him. Viewing will be held on Sunday, January 24th, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The attendance limit is 25 people, no ins and outs. Please contact the family regarding livestream service. Funeral mass will be at St. Vincent Ferrer Church on Monday, January 25th at 11:00 AM. The attendance limit is 30 people. Due to the global pandemic, we will not be gathering to celebrate his life at this time. We will hold a memorial for Jimmy at a later date when everyone is safe.
